Archimedes’ Law

Archimedes’ Law

Overview
Archimedes’ principle states that a body submerged in a fluid experience an upward buoyant force equal to the weight of the displaced fluid. Mathematically:

Where:

  • Fb is the buoyant force (B),

  • ρf is the fluid density,

  • V is the displaced volume,

  • g is gravitational acceleration.

Significance
This principle is fundamental in fluid mechanics and is applied in ship design, submarines, and hydrodynamics.
