Magnetic Field Strength by Tangent Galvanometer

3-Magnetic Field Strength by Tangent Galvanometer

Overview

This experiment uses a tangent galvanometer to measure the magnetic field produced by a current in a coil (Bc).

When the coil’s field is perpendicular to the Earth’s horizontal magnetic field (Be), the net magnetic field is the vector sum of both fields. The horizontal component of the Earth’s magnetic field is related to the coil’s field by:

Significance of the Experiment
This experiment is fundamental for understanding magnetic fields, electromagnetism, and calibration of galvanometers.
